Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Approx 48 km away

The Grossglockner high alpine road leads through one of the most beautiful natural landscapes on Earth – the Hohe Tauern National Park. Within a few kilometres you can experience all climatic and vegetation zones from Austria to the Arctic: meadows, forests, pastures, cliffs and ice.

A little closer to the sky

The most famous alpine road leads to the highlight of the Hohe Tauern National Park: the highest mountain and the largest glacier in Austria – Grossglockner (3,798 m) and the Pasterze Glacier.

On the way there, you can experience a 4,000 km journey to the Arctic. On the climb from 1,500 m to “Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe” you will cross all vegetation zones, from crop fields to eternal ice.

Various exhibitions and events along the high alpine road will teach you all about Austria’s highest mountain.
