St. Johann im Pongau
Your summer holidays in the Salzburg Province
Approximately 60 kilometres south of the city of Salzburg, located in the wide valley of the Salzach River, is your holiday resort St. Johann (Saint James). St. Johann is the capital of the Pongau district – situated in the heart of the Salzburg province in Austria.
The Alpendorf village area lies at approximately 800 metres above sea level and is well known as a 'holiday paradise' and as the entry point to the Salzburg Sportwelt holiday region, which extends far beyond its borders. Especially popular is the legendary Lichteinsteinklamm Gorge, which was made available to the public in 1876 and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
But the Pongau district and the holiday region around Alpendorf are also fantastic destinations for mountain biking fans, walking and hiking enthusiasts, tennis and golfing fans. The beautiful region in the Salzburg province is an alpine idyll for truly varied, active summer holidays in Austria.
